Final Exam Blog Post (Part Tres)

Success:

In my opinion, my most successful piece of work this semester was my comic strip. One of the reasons was that it was an original idea and piece of work, and I actually came up with the idea, which is surprising, because I'm not always the most creative person. I am actually very proud of this project, because I'm not the greatest at cartoon style, and it turned out pretty well (it was also featured in Apex's newspaper!!) I was able to communicate through my work the rivalry that some of students feel about the restaurants just past the pods, in a funny, comic (see what I did there?) way. And yes, I am proud of it, even though it STILL isn't finished. (hehe I know I'm, terrible).

Redo:
Of all the projects that we did in this class, I think that I would want to redo the light project the most. Now we would know how to draw better and quicker, and have more success overall in the final products that we would produce. Honestly, it was just a really fun day, and I wouldn't mind another one of them.

Final Exam Blog Post (Part Dos)

I Developed Art Making Skills:
Before we did the painting unit, I had minimal experience with paint, because my preferred medium is pencil, and quite frankly I kinda sucked at painting. We used acrylic paint, which I think I largely prefer to watercolor. I learned new techniques in terms of that we learned how to mix the paint to make the colors that we wanted (we only really had the primary colors and black & white). I also learned that you paint the WHOLE background first (and promptly forget about that when I was painting a galaxy bunny for my friend's birthday...hehehe...). While most people painted in straight lines across the canvas, I painted in kind of abrupt strokes going all directions which I thought actually went well with the theme and scene of the painting. I definitely gained a lot of experience with the materials, and hope to paint more in the future.

Final Exam Blog Post (Part Uno)

Art in Technology:

Because we're in AOIT Art (weird, I know, >.<) but we had the opportunity to use the iPads in the media center. In making the "technology" piece I used art in the actual making of the shape, and in the paint brushes that gave it more texture and more of a real cactus, (I mean, it was based on a short story "The Cactus" where it was a non-real in life cactus called a Ventomarme, that the girl who got married and the guy who though he loved her was sad and a dude told him it translated to  "come to me" 'cause of the weird "beckoning" leaves and it was basically encouraging affairs, which aren't good)...but anyway, I was really proud of the final product, and still am, it was my first attempt at computer art!! And art in technology!! Yeah!!

Technology in Art:
For one of our past Photoshop projects (not in the 12 days) we took pictures with photo frames, and put something that represented ourselves inside of it. In the end it was a piece of art (or at least I should hope so, because although I never saw it, my friends *sigh, yes, I do have some of those* told me that it was featured on a TV screen at the front of the school or something like that). Without the use of Photoshop, it would of just been an ugly picture of me, instead of a masterpiece! (not really) (but really tho.) JK I don't do good art, I mean this is kinda passable. I searched the interweb for colorful paint splatters, and used the transform tool to place the art in and around the frame and under me feet, to make it look like (or atleast close) to it have always had been there.

Day 7: Disney-Super Hero Mashup

For our seventh and final day in the days of photoshop(*cries*), we did a Disney character super hero mash up. I combined Stitch (the most adorable character ever!!!) With Thor (he's great!). It turned out actually not that bad!!

Day 6: Parody Movie Poster

We had to make a parody of a movie poster, so I did Iron man, except with the tin man from The Wizard of Oz. I did two versions, colored and Black and white (for the tin man).

Day 5: Animations

For this day of Photoshop, we had pretty much had free rein of what to do, as long as we made it into an animation. For mine I decided to do a snowball fight where the snowballs were flying toward the screen. (I may have gotten a little lazy towards the end, hehe).

Day 4: Literal Interpretations

Today and Friday, we looked up lists of compound words, put the two objects together in a literal interpretation of the word, in a total 5:

Railroad

Peppermint

Snowball

Rainbow

Teaspoon

...And you are very welcome for the enlightenment I've shed on your day as you aimlessly scrolled through my blog for some reason!!

Day 3: Scrambled Bodies

For the third day, we had to scramble up body parts and put them in different/wrong places. Being the basic person I am, Carly and I took a picture together, and swapped our faces. Carley's face looks great, and mine looks so ratchet. In addition, we each have three feet, 'cause why not?

Twelve Days of Photoshop: Day 1

For the first day of photoshop, we were tasked slicing something and putting something inside of it. After staring aimlessly at the wall, drained by school of any creative ideas, I decided, with the help of Ashley, to slice the Easter Bunny and put candy inside. Not the best, but it didn't turn out 100% terrible either. It would be kinda cute if it wasn't kinda creepy too.

Anamorphosis Project

For the first part, I did a sunflower to morph it to the perspective needed, on the computer and then griding it and drawing it with the grid in my  sketch book. On Thursday, our whole squad went outside to the parking lot and drew Kara's picture, Patches from 101 Dalmatians. Instead of keeping to black and white, we used all the color of chalk we could find, and yellow for the body, which we blended and paled with paint brushes. We left a masterpiece of chalk art for everyone to admire, before the rain washed it away.

Post-it Note Portraits

At Cary towne Centre! (Grayson for scale)
Us working on it!
For the post it note art, my table did half of Paul Walker's face in mostly warm colored sticky notes. Grayson was our great color caller, Carter and I did the line of sticky notes and Ashley, Carly and Kara were our amazing tapers! It turned out fabulous, so fabulous that ours was on display at Cary Towne Centre!! (Take that Morgan Freeman group    >.<) Anyway, it was fun, and cool to stand back and see the final product after our days of hard labor!

Walk Cycle

For the walk cycle project, we spent a day in the art trailer taking pictures of the animal in the different stages of the cycle, moving the pieces of their legs. Because I was doing an ostrich, the knees bent backwards and it was a little difficult, but it worked out! Then we put it into photoshop and made a gif!

Photography Unit

Personality Picture Frame

Personality Frame:
For this project, we're supposed to go around the school and find a place to make a pose with a picture frame. After, we would use photoshop to put something in the frame or the space around it to represent our personalities. I was kind of at of at a loss of what it would like, so I just found a bunch of vibrant colors, because I like to think I'm a happy and exuberant person...when I've had enough caffeine/sleep and am in a good mood. I turned the background black and white because school, and everything it represents doesn't deserve any color.

Newinimal: "Bearilla"
Newinimal:
For this photoshop project, we had to take our animal from the biology animal/zoo project (our group had the gorilla) and combine it with another animal, and I chose a black bear. I named this hybrid creature: the Bearilla. It was a little difficult to figure out what to do at first, but the project wasn't too hard once you got into it.

Light Painting

Light Painting:
For one day, we put paper over the windows and set up in groups where we'd set the exposure really long on the cameras to capture the drawings we had either created with pen lights, lasers, or glow sticks (and even Kara's tweezer lights). It was a really fun day and we had a Rave!

Illustration Unit

Displaying IMG_0390.JPG
"Colorful Night" painting
For our final project as part of the illustration unit, we chose a few pictures to compile together to create an original painting. At first, my initial plan was to draw silhouettes standing on the mountains, but the perspective would've been off, so I scratched that plan. I used kind of small strokes on my painting as opposed to the long horizontal strokes, hoping it would help with the blending I hoped to achieve, and it ended up looking pretty cool. For the stars, I used white spray paint, and it turned out better than I would've hoped. I messed up one of the starts...but shhhhh, it's the north star now :).

Comic Unit

Stitch Light Copy and Bones
For the comic unit, we drew a comic character and created their bones; I did Stitch, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to look at him the same way again. All the components of creating was pretty cool though and I'm pretty proud of the bones.

At the beginning we answered so questions (in the right bottom picture) in our sketch book about comics and such. For our final project we made a comic and had to include at least one original character. I made a comic about the Taco Bell Chihuahua (not mine) fighting the Bojangles Armadillo (my creation), and I personally had a lot of fun with it! Overall, I think it's been a pretty fun unit! :)

Cartoon Photoshop

Cartoon Photoshop Project
Our second task and first real(?) project on Photoshop was to put ourselves with a cartoon character and interact with them and add a background.

For mine I chose to put myself with Snoopy on the back of his doghouse when in fighting the Red Baron mode. I had a lot of fun with this project messing around with all the settings and finding a character and scene to do. :)

Angry Pancakes

Angry Pancakes (Tutorial)
Before our first Photoshop project on the computers, we completed a tutorial on who to use the program by making "Angry Pancakes." They're interesting...to say something...But it was fun to mess around with the tools in Photoshop to create something...special...
